Finished my first full week at my internship.  So. Much. Security.  It seems as though I am always one or two permission levels too low to access what I need...  Oh well.  Finally got to start building the project's UI this week.  One cool thing about the setup they have is that all of the plugins and frameworks you could really want for web development are already available to you on their servers.  Been learning Bootstrap, Razor, and cshtml this week, as well as working on understanding Linq and SQL stored procedures.  That whole joke about "My code doesn't work, I don't know why.  My code works, I don't know why." is really holding true fo

Day one of my internship is done, and as my manager said so accurately, "It's like drinking from a fire hose."  Orientation was just one big info dump.  The level of security on the machines is infuriating, we can't install anything or use them for much of anything.  Heck, even work related software is inaccessible without making a ticket with IT, and we're the IT department.  Oh well, it makes sense given the nature of the data we have access to, it just sucks from a usability standpoint. Starting my first job, erm...  internship tomorrow.  It's going to be great getting to finally use the stuff I've learned at school to make something that's actually useful.  We'll see I guess.  I've never really thought about posting my thoughts or making any sort of journal before, but maybe I'll start now.  After all, everything else is changing for me, why not one more thing? It's been a really weird year so far.  My immediate family for years consisted of 9 people.  This year it became 6, and in a few months it will be 7.  This will be the first time in my life where I have seniority over someone in my family, that's a weird thought...
